The ABfaR Blog - the Lowestoft Cuckoo

The latest contribution on the ABfaR blog is an account of an air raid on Lowestoft on 1st February 1942 in which a mother and two of her children were killed. Their deaths led to the installation of an 'immediate danger' air raid warning which sounded like the call of a cuckoo. That alert subsequently sounded 628 times before the end of the war saving countless other lives.

Lowestoft Ephemera

I maintain another site called Old Lowestoft. It is a collection point for various ephemeral items of local historical interest. Buried within that site is Letters from Lowestoft, a collection of letters of local Lowestoft war news written during WW2.

For information about the 1916 German bombardment of Lowestoft during WW1 you can find the full text of my family's account of the bombardment on the 'Old Lowestoft' site.

Latest stock additions

Sad to say I haven't added any new stock since November 2014 when my oldest relative went into hospital. It was found when he was ready to be discharged that he was no longer capable of looking after himself and he has gone into residential care.

This has necessitated the disposal of his home but before that can be achieved the contents have to be sorted and carefully examined, especialIy as there are several paper securities that have not been traced.

I have managed to add a couple of posts to my blog but little else. I have continued buying interesting stock when it has been offered including a couple of Georgette Heyer collections and I hope to find the time to catalogue it later this year.

In the meantime please watch this space!
